About this whisky
Jura Caribbean Rum Cask is a smooth, fruity single malt from the Isle of Jura, finished in casks that once held Caribbean rum. The rum casks add a sunny, tropical character to Jura’s balanced island whisky: think guava, mango and banana, creamy vanilla fudge and a long, warming finish of sweet cinnamon spice.
Part of Jura’s Cask Editions range and bottled at 40% ABV, it’s unpeated, easy to drink and great value. It’s a good choice if you like sweet, fruity whisky, or if you’re a rum drinker curious about Scotch.
Jura Caribbean Rum Cask Tasting Notes
- Colour: Rich golden amber.
- Nose: Tropical guava and toasted coconut, with sugar-coated almonds, apricot, orange and a hint of citrus.
- Palate: Rich and creamy, with sweet vanilla and fudge, then layers of mango, banana and guava.
- Finish: A lasting, sweet cinnamon spice.
There’s no smoke here. It’s all about tropical fruit and creamy sweetness, which makes it one of the most approachable whiskies in the Jura range.
How It’s Made: Bourbon Barrels, Then Rum Casks
The whisky starts life in American white oak barrels that previously held bourbon. That first maturation gives Jura its smooth base of vanilla, honey and soft oak.
It’s then moved into hand-selected casks that held Caribbean rum for a finishing period. Rum casks are soaked with the flavours of sugar cane and tropical warmth, and they pass some of that on: ripe tropical fruit, brown-sugar sweetness and gentle spice. The result is still clearly a Scotch single malt, just with a holiday feel.
